Anti-lice

What are lice?

Lice are parasites that take refuge in the scalp of children and adults. The infestation of these small insects on the head or any other hairy part of the body is called pediculosis and, despite being very annoying, does not cause serious illnesses.

Lice measure between 2 and 3 mm and are visible to the naked eye. They like the scalp because it provides the ideal temperature for reproduction and the blood in their capillaries is a very accessible food.

The life cycle of lice

Lice live about 28 days and develop in three phases: egg or nit, nymph and adult louse. Nits hatch in the hair, about 4 to 6 mm from the scalp. After about a week, the eggs hatch and the nymphs emerge, which after about seven days will become adult lice.

How do they spread?

Head lice are common in preschool-aged children or those attending elementary school. They cannot fly, but crawl, and therefore the main way of contagion is through close and prolonged contact between one head and another.

In this sense, a common way of contagion is when children play in the park or in the schoolyard and are so close that lice can jump from one to another easily.

To prevent the transmission of this insect, it is advisable to wash clothes, especially bed linens and towels, and to clean combs and hairbrushes with a pediculicidal product.
