The origins of Acofarma arose when different pharmaceutical cooperatives decided to join together within the National Union of Industrial Cooperatives.
An adventure that began over 75 years ago
The Acofarma project was born in 1947 within the Spanish pharmaceutical cooperative. Its founders, a group of pharmacists, were pioneers in envisioning a company that would boost the competitiveness of pharmacies and invest in their sustainability.
The company began its journey in the pharmaceutical market by providing partners linked to cooperatives with products and solutions that met the highest pharmaceutical quality standards.
Faithful to this innovative spirit, today Acofarma represents the brand of the cooperative and the pharmacy, keeping intact its original purpose of promoting pharmacy and ensuring access to well-being for all of society.

20 cooperatives make up Acofar, the Association of Pharmaceutical Cooperatives
“Cooperation is not imposed, it is simply proposed.” Acofar was created to be a service entity for its members. Its financial support services were so successful that the volume of business led to the founding of Bancofar, the pharmacists’ bank.
1962
Acofar Magazine is born, the first in the industry
It currently has a print run of around 20,000 copies and offers sector benchmarking, legal, IT and centralized purchasing services.
1972
Acofarma factory in Terrassa
The Association of Pharmaceutical Cooperatives, Acofarma SCL, is created
The purpose of the Acofarma SCL second-degree cooperative is to supply the most complete range of chemical-pharmaceutical and parapharmaceutical products necessary for the best functioning of the pharmacy office.
1978
Acofar product.
Acofarma begins its activity and Acofar is created, the first pharmaceutical distribution brand in Spain
Acofar, the first distribution brand, is born, and Acofarma moves to a large factory in Terrassa (Barcelona) that is also used as warehouse, distribution center and manufacturing plant for certain products.
2008
Acofarma is renewed and Acofarma distribution SA is born
In 2008, the second-degree cooperative remained a holding company and service provider, while its own brand commercial activity was managed by a subsidiary entity, Acofarma distribucion S.A.
2020
We strive to be part of people’s lives
Acofarma has renewed its corporate identity through which it intends to reinforce its vision – to ensure that everyone has access to pharmaceutical quality products and services.

Faithful to our original identity, today Acofarma is made up of 19 pharmaceutical cooperatives that come together in 3 large entities.
Unnefar Group Second-level pharmaceutical cooperative that covers more than 3,000 pharmacies with its 7 pharmaceutical distribution companies and provides services under the Cruzfarma brand.
Bidafarma Group. Second-level cooperative group made up of 4 cooperatives, all of them with the same common goal: to timely provide drugs to all their pharmacies and in the best conditions.
Fedefarma. Cooperative created by pharmacists in 1928, whose main goal is the distribution of drugs among the more than 3,000 member pharmacies.
